Right On Time

TC likes to get me a Christmas present almost every December. In 2015, he blew a suspensory in early December and needed to see the vet. In 2016, he had a weak stifle and needed to see the vet. In 2017, he got a cold and needed to see the vet. Then in 2018, he finally cooled it with the vet bill presents for Christmas. Thank you, TC.

But this year, TC was back to his antics. He decided to not drink enough water last week and colic on Thursday morning.

Luckily it was very mild, he didn't feel like eating and was pawing in this one spot for a while. One of the barn workers noticed, called a trainer who works there, the trainer called me, I called the vet.

TC got some banamine, a tube up his nose, and a hand up his butt. I also grabbed a tube of banamine and some vials for blood just in case. She thought that he had probably not drank enough water, but his temp was up, which could also be evidence of an infection, which could also make him colic.

His temp was normal on Friday, but he still felt kind of iffy. I put a saddle on him and walked him around the ranch, but he was kind of lethargic. I figured he was still feeling bad and started worrying about a possible infection but decided to give it another day. Sure enough, by Saturday he felt totally normal and was really amped. I got him out and he acted beside himself that I had given him so much time off.

We had a short ride that day only because I was expecting the worst and didn't leave enough time to do more. Just a quick walk-trot-canter ride while I tried to keep TC under control. It's funny, I'm loving the Nathe about 95% of the time, but the 5% that TC gets super hot and playful isn't super fun in that bit. Oh well, at least he's feeling better!
