Blog Hop: Wish We Could

Car issue is resolved! Yesterday I forwent riding in favor of driving over 400 miles round trip to get a car! It's a 2012 Prius C, excellent gas mileage and just enough room in the back to cart my horse stuff around with me (boots, helmet, brace, and sometimes my saddle). It was located in the middle of a cow town where no one wants a Prius so the price was ridiculously low for what the car was. So glad that I ignored the people the other day who told me I'd never find a better deal. Wrong!

Alright so onto the blog hop from Beka at The Owls Approve

Let's pretend that financial restrictions don't exist and logistics isn't a nightmare.  If you could do anything with your Ponykins, what would you do?

This is going to get a bit weird since Rico is semi-retired and I've basically done everything I could have done with him given his soundness.

Alright so the first thing I'd do is a full body scan for Rico, find out where exactly his old body is breaking down, and then have each joint surgically made just as new. I'd love to get his tendons completely cleaned up and possibly replaced because if I had billions of dollars, I would certainly look into tendon replacement surgery for horses. So necessary. I'd put him on all the best supplements, inject his joints as much as he wanted, give him whatever shoes he wanted... until he was just as good as ever!

Then we'd head off to the CDIs, probably not this season since he'd be recovering from a bunch of surgeries and I need to get him scoring exceptionally well at the Grand Prix level to justify going. It'd be fun to gear him up for some big huge competition like the World Cup or whatever because we could probably improve his passage with perhaps springs in his joints? That may make him difficult to sit for me though, hmmm.

Been to the beach
Climbed some awesome hills

I've always wanted to event him. So once as he was guaranteed to be sound, I'd school him over some cross country and show jumping fences, getting him ready to turn into my Training horse and soon my Prelim horse. Probably need to get to two-star or wherever you can use a double bridle to really get him scoring well because he was always a bit of a dick in the snaffle. He's kind of afraid of jumping anything that isn't a plain vertical  so I'd probably need to hire like Boyd Martin full time to help me with him, on top of my dressage coach who would maintain us at a high level so we could keep doing the CDIs alongside moving up in eventing.

With the new joints and tendons, and unlimited money to fix him whenever he broke, I'd probably do a whole bunch of trail riding, possibly try combined driving him for funzies, and yeah foxhunting sounds bad ASS as long as he'd jump everything (some lucky event trainer will get paid a lot to make this horse jump confidently because the horse is a total chicken out in the open over fences).

Or maybe I would just clone him so that Rico could live out his years in pasture and his little twin brother could do all the fun stuff. Fuck it, I'll take six clones of Rico, one to event, one to do dressage with, one to try show jumping because that sounds fun, one for combined driving, one to trail ride, and one to keep my backyard so I can cuddle him while all of my different trainers work with the other Ricos because who has time to ride six of the exact same horse every day?

Yassss.

This was probably the weirdest thing I've ever posted. No regrets.

  1. Haha a as you were building your bionic horse in the first half of the post i wondered why you didn't just clone him & then boy did you clone him with your imaginary billions. 6 Ricos would be awesome!
Congrats on finding the car, may you have many adventures together ☺

    1. I would love it if there was technology to make a horse's tendons and joints never break down! But I'm sure it would be expensive and I'd probably opt not to do it anyway.

    1. Haha it was the only way I could get him to do what I wanted! He's too old now to do anything super super fun.
